DVD Geeks - 03.01.10

Date 2010-03-01

Release the Kraken! Tonight on DVD Geeks, we’ll look at two beloved ‘80s fantasy/adventure classics. First, Ray Harryhausen’s final films as visual effects supervisor is a stop-motion feast for the eyes – “Clash of the Titans.” Don’t confuse this with the 2010 CGI remake – we’re talking about a pre-“L.A. Law” Harry Hamlin as Perseus battling the most despicable creatures of the ancient world.

Following that, we’ll take a more gentle journey with “The Neverending Story” – a film by Wolgang Petersen that transports a little boy into a fantastical world.

We’ll also look at a quirky Paul Giamatti film called “Cold Souls” in which Giamatti plays himself only with the handicap of having his soul removed in order to tackle a challenging stage role.

Finally, we’ll geek out over the latest Hayao Miyazaki creation “Ponyo” which is getting the delixe release treatment from Disney along with re-releases this week of some of his previous titles. All that plus the week’s honorable mentions, “Geek Picks” and more!
